Lauren Barnert-Hosie

Owner of Open Spaces Yoga Center, Lauren is a Certified Iyengar Yoga Introductory II Level teacher with over twenty years experience teaching Iyengar Yoga classes, workshops and private sessions.  In 1998 Lauren completed the IYISF teacher training and moved to a small town in North East Arizona (Show Low). After studying with Carolyn Belko, Lauren was certified as an Iyengar instructor in 2008.  She established Open Spaces Yoga Center in Lakeside, AZ, in 2001 currently teaches Gentle, Levels 1, 2 and 3 classes as well as workshops and privates.  Lauren is participating in the 3 year Iyengar Yoga Therapeutics training with Manouso Manos.  She holds a certificate of Psychomotor Therapy from New York Medical College and a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Florida.

Barbara Chiancone-Gitlin

Barbara is a Certified Iyengar Yoga Introductory II teacher. Since 1995 she has taught yoga in the field of stress reduction in the Boston, Cleveland  Ohio and Prescott, Az. Her training began in the Boston area in1986 completing several advanced teacher training programs with Rodney Yee and Patricia Walden. She moved to Cleveland, OH in 1994  and continued her studies with Senior Iyengar Teacher Patricia Walden, Manouso Manos, Laurie Blakeney and Rodney Yee. In Arizona, she continued to study Iyengar yoga with Josie Lazarus, Caryln Sikes and Carolyn Belko.

Lisa Henrich 

Lisa is a certified Iyengar Yoga teacher at the Introductory II level. She also holds an Occupational Certificate in Yoga Instruction from Scottsdale Community College, and a B.A. in Anthropology from Arizona State University. A devoted pupil of the late Yogacharya B.K.S. Iyengar, Lisa has been practicing yoga since 2003, and studies regularly with Iyengar Yoga Teachers Carlyn Sikes of Scottsdale and Carolyn Belko of Encinitas, California. As an Iyengar Yoga teacher, Lisa is committed to making the benefits of yoga practice available to all students, regardless of their limitations or experience level, and ensuring that students of all degrees of ability get the benefit of practicing yoga safely and effectively. Her goal as a teacher is to educate students on the principles of movement and alignment, so students understand why the asanas (poses) are practiced, and gain the benefit of intelligent and purposeful work in yoga practice.

Jean is an Introductory II Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher. Jean completed her certification in 2013 with the guidance of Senior Teacher, Carolyn Belko and Intermediate Junior I teacher Carlyn Sikes. Jean continues to study with higher level Iyengar yoga teachers. She love teaching yoga especially Iyengar Yoga for its safe approach to teaching. Judith Whitehouse

Judith Whitehead has been a yoga practitioner for 30 years. Her interest in teaching began in the early 1990's when she participated in the two-year Advanced Teacher Training Program at the Iyengar Institute in San Francisco. After graduating from the Iyengar Institute, she moved to Tucson and began teaching at the B.K.S. Iyengar of Tucson studio in 2000. With Katherine Maltz's encouragement, Judith commenced studies to gain Iyengar Yoga teaching certification and in 2004 received her Introductory II certification. Judith gives credit to her teachers who have largely influenced her practice and instruction. During her years in San Francisco, Judith received significant influence from Janet MacLeod. In Tucson, Katherine Maltz has become Judith's primary teacher. Judith also counts herself fortunate to have learned from both Dean Lerner and Manouso Manos.

Marivic Wrobel

Marivic Wrobel is a Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher in Introductory II level. She completed her Occupational Certification in Yoga Instruction, 200 and 500 hours at Scottsdale Community College. Marivic has Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences from UCSD and an Associate Degree in Business Administration from Sawyer College of Business. She is member of the Iyengar Yoga National Association of the United States and of its Southwest Regional Association. Karen Smith is an Iyengar Certified Introductory II teacher. Ross Temple

Ross Temple is a devoted Iyengar yoga student. He is a Introductory II Certified Iyengar Yoga teacher. Ross came to Scottsdale Community College in hopes to dance and also teach yoga, but after a devastating injury to his knee, Ross chose to stop dancing and focus all his time on his yoga practice and his teaching. He received his 200 hour, Occupational Certification in Yoga Instruction, and his 500 hours at Scottsdale Community College. He is a member of the Iyengar Yoga National Association of the United States. Ross continues to study with Carlyn Sikes and Carolyn Belko, as well as other Certified Senior Iyengar Teachers.

Vickie Wofford

Vickie Wofford is an Introductory II Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher. She received her 200 hour and 500 hour Teacher Training at Scottsdale Community College. She is a member of the Iyengar Yoga National Association of the United States. Vickie is a devoted student of Iyengar style Hatha Yoga. Aileen Epstein-Ignadiou

Aileen is a Intermediate Junior III, Certified Iyengar Yoga teacher since 1983. She has studied with the Iyengar family in India, and senior Iyengar teachers around the world. Having lived and taught classes and workshops around the world, she made Las Vegas her home since 1992, raising three children. While pregnant, she studied with the Iyengars in India, using this knowledge and training to develop the prenatal/post natal program for the prestigious B.K.S. Iyengar Yoga Institute in Los Angeles. Her goal is to provide the people in her community with professional instruction and a state-of-the-art facility in which to practice and learn yoga.

Katherine Maltz

Owner of the B.K.S. Iyengar yoga studio of Tucson,  Katherine has practiced, studied, and taught Iyengar yoga since 1982 and has directed the B.K.S. Iyengar Yoga Studio of Tucson since 1997.  Currently, she holds an Intermediate 1 level of certification. Her primary teacher in the Iyengar method is Manouso Manos.  Previously, Katherine lived in New York City and taught hatha yoga. Hosting many workshops in Tucson with Manouso Manos and Dean Lerner, Ms. Maltz has seen the Iyengar method grow in the local community. Her studio also hosted the 2004 certification exams for teachers in training from throughout the United States. Katherine counts it a privilege to have studied with B.K.S. Iyengar, his daughter Geeta, and his son Prashant in Pune, India as well as in Paris,  and the US. Teaching, on-going studies, and spending time with her  husband of 40 years (Gerry) keeps Katherine busy. She honors her practice and her teachers (primarily Manuoso Manos and Dean Lerner) and is grateful to their influence in her teaching and her life.

Carlyn Sikes

Carlyn Sikes is a Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher at the Intermediate Junior II level.  She is full-time Faculty and Director of Yoga at Scottsdale Community College in Scottsdale, Arizona.  Carlyn’s life long interest in movement led her to the study of Iyengar Yoga.  In this system she found what she had been looking for and continues her study of Iyengar Yoga with Manouso Manos, Carolyn Belko, Nancy Stechert and Craig Kurtz. Her passion for Iyengar Yoga are evident in the ongoing asana classes that she teaches as she encourages students to go beyond their perceived limitations.  Carlyn is currently completing the Iyengar Yoga Therapeutics Training for Teachers with Manousoo Manos in Los Agneles.  Under the mentorship of Carolyn Belko Carlyn developed college curriculum for preparation of Yoga Teachers. This program was one of the first Yoga training programs offered at a community college level in the nation and it is the only college level training in Arizona, where students receive college credit that can be used toward any number of degrees from SCC or any of the four-year universities. Carlyn is the author of SCC's Yoga Teacher Training and Yoga Therapy manuals.

Benjamin Thomas

Benjamin Thomas is an Intermediate Senior I Iyengar teacher who has studied in India with one of the world’s most influential yoga teachers, BKS Iyengar. Ben’s unique teaching style reaches to the core of this ancient system. He conveys his profound knowledge of the inner structure of yoga with wit, wisdom and compassion. This helps his students meld their inner and outer strength that creates unity between the mind, body and soul. Ben Thomas is humble, gracious and extremely knowledgeable – three qualities that make him an inspirational Iyengar Yoga instructor. Ben teaches that the regular practice of asanas together with pranayama have a positive impact on the effects of stress and disease. As a result of Ben’s personality and teaching style, he has developed a loving and mindful community of yogis that are motivated and eager to improve themselves and their craft.

Cynthia Worby Nero

Cynthia Worby Nero is a certified Iyengar Yoga teacher at the junior intermediate level who has been teaching since 1992. She directed and taught at Bedford Yoga in Bedford, New York from 1992 through 2010. In 2011 Cynthia moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico where she teaches classes and workshops at YogaSource and at Christus St. Vincent Medical Center (yoga for cancer patients in treatment and recovery). In 2002 Cynthia wrote "The Everything Yoga Book", a comprehensive, easy to understand introduction to the vast world of Yoga. She also wrote "Yoga on the Go: Yoga Poses to Shift Your State of Mind" in 2003, a fun deck of yoga postures ideal for home practice and travel. Cynthia's teaching style is warm, encouraging, and accessible to beginner through experienced students. She has taught yoga in public schools, workshops in Northeast and has appeared on television and on radio.
